The Project Management Institute (PMI®) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) defines project scope as the features and functions that are to be included in a product or service.  Scope management describes how the project will be defined, developed, and verified and how the work breakdown structure will be created and defined and provides guidance on how the project scope will be managed and controlled by the project management team.  It is important that the process limit and control the work included in the project as well as ensure that all the work of the project is included.  Defining and managing the sope of a project includes the identification of boundaries.  However, like all things, projects are seldom static and must be amendable to change.  To that end, scope management also includes a description of the change control process by which change requests will be identified, tracked, approved and prioritized.  We will cover this topic in more detail under Project Management Plan-Change Management.
